Installing Norton Corporate Edition

Installing Symantec server

Put your copy of Symantec antivirus into your CD/ROM drive and close the draw. The CD should automatically start and show you a window like this one below. Select the second option down “Install Symantec Antivirus”
 

Next select “Install Symantec Antivirus Server”
 
 
You will next be asked to choose between install and update. We select “Install Symantec Antivirus Server” and click Next.
 
Next is the License Agreement. Put a dot in the circle next to “I agree” and click Next.
 
The next window is left at the default of both boxes ticked to install the server program and the reporting agents. Then click Next.
 
To add a server highlight the domain server on the left hand side and click the Add button in the centre. This will add the domain to the right hand side window. Then click Next
 
Symantec will next give you a summary of the computers it is to be installed onto. If there are more than one then the computer can be highlighted and the destination of the installation changed (if default location is not preferred). Click Next

Enter the name for the antivirus group “(your company name) antivirus” then click Next
 
By clicking next you will be asked if you want to create this new group. Click Yes. A new window opens asking for you to make a username and password. These are made in accordance with company guidelines.
 
Next is the automatic start up or manual start up. This determines if Symantec starts when windows starts or if it has to be started manually. We will select “Automatic startup” then click Next,
 
Click Next at the next window.
 
Then click Finish
 
The program will begin to install on the selected servers
 
 
Once the installation is completed a small window will appear to notify you that the definitions need updating. For now just click Close remembering there isn’t an internet connection yet due to windows blocking it and then click Close again.
 
 
Installing Symantec System centre
You will be returned to the install menu again where we will select the first option to install next “Install Symantec System Centre”
 
Click Next to start the install.

Click accept to the license agreement and then click Next
 
 
Tick all the boxes in the next window and click Next
 
The next screen is the destination of the install for the program. Leave this at the default and click Next.
 
Next click Install.
 
 
Set up continues to install in the location specified.
 
Click Finish
 
You will be notified to restart the system for the installation to be completed. Click Yes
 
A reboot will take place.
 
Updating the software
With Symantec now installed and protection enabled for the server, it is safe to connect to the internet. We will now update the server and virus definitions. First click Finish
 
This will prompt a window asking if you are sure, click Yes
 
 
Updating the antivirus software
There is a yellow shield icon down next to the clock on the bottom right hand side of the desktop display. Right click this icon and select “Open Symantec Antivirus”
 
You will be prompted for your username and password. Enter this information and then click Ok
 
Click the option “LiveUpdate”
 
Click Next  to see  available updates for this software
 
Click Finish to complete the virus definition update.
 
Then click Exit to finish
