Port Forwarding |
Port ForwardingPort forwarding is done for many reasons like gaming or VPN. This tutorial will not go into that but rather address one of the ways it can be done
|
To access your router/modem interface you will need to know the IP address of the router/modem. This is easy to find out. Click start and select "Run" Type "cmd" A black "Dos" window opens with a blinking cursor. Type this exactly ipconfig , this will bring up some information about your computers systems connection. We are looking for the words "Default Gateway" as this is the IP address of your router/modem Open a browser such as IE or Firefox and type that address exactly how you see it with the dots into the address bar of the browser E.G. 192.168.1.1 This will open a window prompting you for a username and password, if this is the first time you have accessed this page then normally the default username and password will apply. Try "admin" for both, otherwise refer to your users manual that came with the router/modem.
There are certain requirements in port forwarding that you must have. 1. Access to your router/modem interface 2. A static IP address 3. The port numbers to be forwarded Without these you will be wasting your time |
Once you are in the interface it is a simple matter of looking for the option that says forwarding. Open this option and enter the static IP address of the computer that is to be forwarded to followed by the port number or port range and click save. Once you have done this some simple testing might be needed to make sure it is working. |
